Welcome back for the details on Projects 2 and 3 shown yesterday on the May Pals Blog Hop. I was surprised to see the Kraft Grid Journal on the Retiring List. And, now that I have specifically looked in the 2016 SU Catalog, the large Kraft Grid Journal isn’t shown either. So, if you are like me and love to decorate these journals to give as gifts, please be sure to order by June 2, 2015.
I hate to admit that I purchased the stamp set Perfect Blend some time ago but this was my first inking. Now that it is on the retiring list, I had to show it at least once while still available. Before I heat embossed the coffee cup image with vintage Pewter emboss powder, I used Gorgeous Grunge (it is NOT retiring… yay!) to add some color to the journal. Even the back of the journal was grunged. Using Kraft cardstock, a belly band was made to help the journal stay closed. With another piece of Kraft cardstock, the coffee cup was embossed again and the sentiment was added using Early Espresso ink. I fussy cut the middle portion and attached it to the belly band. After adding white color to the lid with a Chalk Marker, it was fussy cut and mounted to the journal using stampin’ dimensionals.
The left pictures is what it looks like when the belly band is removed. The right picture shows the back of the journal with more grunge!
Now for Project #3. I made a mini treat bag hoping that the journal would fit inside. Although the width of the journal is narrower than the gift bag, the thickness of the journal does not allow it to be inserted. Therefore I came up with another use for the mini treat bag. It is holding a gift card!
The gift card envelope thinlit with Bermuda Bay cardstock is the base for the gift card holder. I cut away one of the sides, used the Note Tag punch to provide finger access to the gift card and textured it with the retiring Perfect Polka Dots folder. Then it was adhered it to Pistachio Pudding cardstock base that had been textured with the Arrows folder. The negative part of the Note Tag is adhered to the top. A hole allows the retiring Calypso Coral chevron ribbon to serve as a pull for the holder. Baked Brown Sugar thick bakers twine and Calypso Coral pompom trim completes the ribbon pull.
The heart that comes with the mini treat bag thinlits provided the peek opening. I used a polka dot window sheet from my stash to “close” the opening. The “I Love You” die cut is from the retiring Label Card Thinlit. The retiring Label Something stamp set along with the retiring Modern Label and Petite Curly Label punches provide the finishing touches to the outside of the mini treat bag.
