Georgia On My Mind

I have been told about a new challenge blog called “The Sisterhood of Crafters” by (wait for it…) my sister, Debbie Mageed.  This current challenge is called “Where in the World” and asks that we share information about where we live.  Although Georgia has been home for most of my life, I discovered that my stamping stash does not contain anything that would represent Georgia.  I decided to download a digital image from the internet.

digi image, brown thrasher, Georgia, Stampin' Up!

I rediscovered that Georgia’s state bird is the Brown Thrasher.  And I have seen plenty of these birds as they scavenge the ground for food.  But you really have to look close because they blend into nature’s palette so well.  It’s their movement that gives them away.  Using my Copic earth colors, I did my best to provide a resemblance to the Brown Thrasher.

Another popular link to Georgia is Willie Nelson’s song “Georgia on my Mind”.  Using the Labeler Alphabet set by Stampin’ Up!, I created my sentiment “Always on my Mind.”  Additional Stampin’ Up! products used with this card are Pacific Point and Early Espresso cardstock, Wood Textures DSP stack, Pacific Point 1/4″ stitched-edged ribbon and retired tool-ish elements from our past Occasions catalog.

I don’t often use digital images because I am a rubber stamper… guess I will need to keep an eye out for a Georgia related rubber stamp.  Hope you have enjoyed my card.  Check out the designer team inspiration cards at this link.

Have fun stamping,

Katy, I had no idea that the brown thrasher was the GA state bird. I think many of our bird stamps would have been fine but I love how you had to make sure you got the exact image, found a digi image and made an absolutely beautiful card with it! Using the wood DSP put him in his natural habitat, too. Willie Nelson will be very proud to see this card touting his song, which always reminds me of the light show on Stone Mountain. Thank you, Katy, for joining me on my newest journey with the Sisterhood. I really hope you will play along with us often!
