Happy Blessings for Retro Rubber Challenge 26

RRCB26I love the opportunity to use my older retired stamp sets!  Going through my stash of retired sets to see what might work with the sketch challenge for Retro Rubber Challenge Blog was fun in that I touched all those sets purchased awhile ago.  Happy Blessings, a stamp set featured in Stampin’ Up!’s 2008 Holiday mini catalog, was chosen for a flipped version of the sketch.  This challenge runs from today through November 6, so get out your old stamps and make them sing.  It is always so much fun when you play along with us!

Happy Blessings, Retro Rubber ChallengePrismacolor pencils and gamsol were used to color these stamp images.  It had been awhile since I colored with wax based pencils, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Would need to practice a bit more with the pencils, but art is in the eye of the beholder…. right?

Adding the sentiment from Happy Blessings to the card brought to mind how the fonts have changed over the years.  I love Stampin’ Up!’s newer larger sentiments along with the different font styles.  The phrase with this set is darling but the size is a bit awkward for me.  I would love to see it in a more modern font!

A couple of new elements were added to this card.  Did you spot them?  They were the Woodland textured embossing folder on the card base as well as the Into the Woods wood elements.

So won’t you come play along with us this challenge period?  The RRCB design team has provided additional samples for your inspiration.  Hope to see you in the gallery!

Have fun stamping,

OMG, this is so cute and wonderfully executed! If you practice any more with those pencils, please post the results, coz I honestly don’t know how you could do any better! I love that embossing folder here, too; it’s great how we can pull in the new with the old and create something that is timeless ly artistic!

Katy, this is a perfect Fall card! 2008? I can’t believe that I never bought this one. It sure fits all of the things I love about Fall. I have never seen a scarecrow stamp before so you are so smart to keep this one. I love your coloring with the pencils but I am not that patient. Your touches of the new product are genius with the TIEF and wooden embellishments! I so love mixing up my supplies! Beautiful card! Off to pin!

I love this card Katy, the use of pencils makes it feel slightly softer. I often have this issue with stamps, whereby I want to see it in a different font, so I often recreate them on my computer and just print them out on a sheet with enough space for die-cutting / punching. Cx

This card is so stinkin’ cute! I love that scarecrow and your coloring is quite excellent! I would never have thought of using those wooden elements the way you did – brilliant! Of course! What can I say – I am never disappointed with your beautiful creations!

Hello Kati: Gosh, I hope lots of people participate in this fun challenge, I love this sketch so I grabbed my much beloved “Holiday Home” from SU and made a cute little card.
Your card is so beautiful, I don’t have to many Scarecrow stamps and I just wish SU didn’t retire cute little sets like this one. Your coloring is beautiful, I love coloring with my Prismacolor pencils but I use baby oil, it has given me great results plus, I love the smell of it.
Thank you for sharing your sweet scarecrow card.
    Maria Rodriguez.
