Strength & Hope for a Friend

Strength & Hope

I needed a card that would express hope for a friend, so the retired “Strength and Hope” stamp set came to mind. It isn’t often that a card comes together for me as easily as this one did.   I love everything about this stamp set … it embodies grace and elegance along with hope.

I put a lot of thought into the layout, the colors, the upward embossed arrows, the changing colors in the butterflies (which, incidentally, were fussy cut) as well as the changing sizes of the Pearl jewels placed on the rising butterflies.  There is a strengthening in the upward movement.  Ok, maybe I am being fanciful, but I like it anyway!

Stamp Set(s):  Strength & Hope (retired)

Paper:  Lost Lagoon, Blackberry Bliss, Very Vanilla

Inks:  Lost Lagoon, Blackberry Bliss, Sahara Sand

Tools and Accessories:  Arrows TIEF, Lost Lagoon Silky Taffeta Ribbon, Venetian Crochet Ribbon, Pearl Jewels

Strength & Hope

Strength & HopeThis is such an easy card to assemble but lovely in its symbolic simplicity.  Although this particular set is retired, there are other butterfly sets that could be used in lieu of this one.  Some of these even have their own punches so that fussy cutting would not be necessary… definitely a perk!

By the way, my friend just found out this past week that the carcinoma was contained within the tumor that was removed, and she won’t need to go through chemo or radiation therapy. Such fantastic news! Now all I need to do is send the card…

Have fun stamping,

Katy, this card is lovely. It has a vintage feel with the butterflies and crocheted lace ribbon. I’m sure your friend will really love and appreciate it. Great job

I love this stamp set and consider it a classic. I believe that it came out “before my time” but the butterfly stamp was part of the Best of Butterflies stamp set and is one that I will keep and cherish. Your card is gorgeous and know that it will be appreciated! You don’t mention in the post so I am assuming that you used the rock and roll technique on the two-toned butterfly, correct? I will have to remember to be aware of the direction of the arrows as a symbolic message of hope. So sweet to take every element of your card to send an uplifting message!!

Thanks, Debbie! The Strength & Hope stamp set came out in the 2011 Summer mini catalog which debuted in May of that year. SU also initiated a campaign to provide $2 per set (& digital set) sold to Breast Cancer Research Foundation throughout the sales period. SU donated nearly $60,000 that Oct as a result of this initiative. It certainly deserved being a part of the Best of Butterflies (something that I had forgotten so thanks for the reminder). And, yes, the rock ‘n roll technique was ever so handy for the two tone butterfly. I don’t use that technique very often so I definitely should have mentioned that as well. Thanks for all the helpful comments… 🙂

Katy, this is just beautiful. I’m sure your friend will love it and appreciate your thoughtfulness. Sorry I missed all your other creations…computer was down, never-ending move (still hauling things) and Rich’s surgery. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. 🙂 Love ya, friend!
